‘What does it mean?’
‘It means that if you go round that corner you’re gonna die.’
‘Don’t be crazy.’
‘It’s called Witches Lane. See that mountain? See the pointy top? That’s Witch Hat Mountain. The legend goes that if you turn the corner your flesh melts from your bones and you’re thrown into a bottomless pit, never to be seen again.’
‘How can anyone know that?’
‘What?’
‘That the flesh melts from your bones if your body is never found?’
‘It’s a legend. People just know. Shall I test it out?’
‘Please don’t. I don’t know the way home.’

How does brain work like that? Genius! Must get back into flash fiction. You’re inspiring me x
Thanks Kate! So glad I’ve inspired you to come back. It’s great practice x
I enjoyed having a bash last night at Rochelle’s 100 word prompt. Although I was a little tired!!
I just tried to read yours but the link isn’t working x
I LOVE it! So simple and yet brilliant – really. What a great last line! I kind of feel a little bit like these two could be Faith and Cai? 🙂
Ha! I wasn’t even thinking of them when I wrote this but I see it now! It must be a subconscious thing. Faith and Cai on the brain. I wonder why! x
Some things are best left untested. Nice one.
Agreed! Thanks Iain.
Discretion is the better part of valour, they say and there’s nothing brave about walking voluntarily to your doom! Nicely told tale
Thanks very much Lynn
My pleasure
Some days superstitions must be challenged and overcome. Other days it’s more important to see your friend safely home! Nice story!
True Penny! Thanks for reading 😊
Great tale of legends. I would have said, Test it out, please do; now would they have done it? Fun read.
Ha! It’s all talk, no action! Thanks for reading.
Left me wondering if there was a second date. Nicely told.
I don’t have high hopes Jilly. Ha. Thanks for reading 🙂
The last line ties it up! lol Enjoyed it immensely.
Thanks so much 😊
UR, indeed, welcome.
This made me laugh.
Cool story.
Am I right in thinking that the guy speaks first and it is the lady who does the wind-up?
She starts and ends it. I was a little worried that it would be confusing with no names but then I thought – if it’s read the other way, as the guy opening and ending, it still works. So glad you liked it! 😊
I prefer it as the guy speaking first and the lady spinning him the tale. I like ladies with a sense of humour!
I actually prefer it that way too! 🙂
What’s more important? Flesh melting or finding the way home? Priorities! Thanks for the grin.

Thanks Rochelle 🙂
Oh good. Nobody died.
Ha! That made me laugh. Thanks for reading 😊
Discretion, as they say, is the better part of valor.
True. 😊
That’s a creepy first date. Loved the Witches hat reference,,, good observation skill JEK
Loved it. The descriptions are wonderful. Paints a real picture of the scene.
Thanks so much!
Ha… love the end… it sounds like better safe than sound… superstition always beats logic in the end.
Thanks Björn 😊
Sounds like a great urban legend and I very much love the last line. 🙂
Thanks Sascha! 🤗
